Nominations are now being accepted for the five Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Awards (CDTA):

Chancellors Club Teaching Professorship

The professorship is awarded for a five-year term and carries an annual salary supplement of $10,000. The professorship recognizes excellence in teaching and will be awarded only to persons who have demonstrated outstanding teaching over a period of years. Up to three professorships may be awarded this year to start in August 2019 and extend through the 2023-2024 academic year.

Eligibility:

  • Tenured full-time faculty with 10 or more years of service at KU who do not already hold another named or university professorship

Nominations must be received Friday, May 10, 2019 by 5 p.m.

Chancellors Club Career Teaching Award

The award carries a stipend of $10,000, less applicable taxes, and is presented annually to a longstanding KU professor whose career exemplifies best the commitment of the university to outstanding teaching and the long-term success of students. Announcement of the recipient of the award will be made at the Chancellors Club dinner during the fall semester. Nominations are invited from students, faculty, staff and alumni of the University.

Eligibility:

  • Tenured full professor with 20 or more years of service at KU who are planning full retirement within next five calendar years

Nominations must be received Friday, May 10, 2019 by 5 p.m.

Ned N. Fleming Trust Award

The award has recognized distinguished teaching since 1990 and carries a $5,000 cash prize. All tenured or tenure-track faculty who have not previously received a Chancellor’s distinguished teaching award are eligible for nomination.

Eligibility:

  • Tenured or tenure-track full-time faculty who have not previously received a CDTA

Nominations must be received Friday, May 10, 2019 by 5 p.m.

Byron T. Shutz Award

The award alternates between recognizing a tenured faculty member in any discipline in odd-numbered years, and a tenured faculty member in business or economics in even-numbered years. This award carries a $4,000 cash prize in addition to a public lecture and reception. This year tenured faculty members in any discipline who have not previously received a CDTA are eligible for nomination.

Eligibility:

  • Tenured full-time associate or full professor in any discipline who have not previously received a CDTA

Nominations must be received Friday, May 10, 2019 by 5 p.m.

Bob & Kathie Taylor Excellence in Teaching Award

This award was newly established last year, made possible through a generous donation by Bob and Kathie Taylor. Bob Taylor graduated with a degree in economics in 1969. The award recognizes a longstanding KU lecturer or other non-tenure track faculty or academic staff member whose career exemplifies best the commitment of the university to outstanding teaching and the long-term success of students. This award carries a $4,000 cash prize.

Eligibility:

  • Non-tenure track faculty or academic staff with substantial teaching responsibilities who have not previously received a CDTA

Nominations must be received Friday, May 10, 2019 by 5 p.m.
