Vital repairs and maintenance projects are scheduled this summer for buildings throughout campus. These projects, necessary to maintain the integrity of KU’s infrastructure, may cause some disruptions to those working in or near the buildings.

Scheduled projects for the summer include the following:

  • Room 3 in Bailey Hall will undergo renovation for a new restroom as well as reflection, lactation and mail rooms.
  • Battenfeld and Lindley halls will have new roofs installed over the summer.
  • The concrete eyebrows that run above the windows on Carruth O’Leary will be repaired this summer. All entries and exits will remain available and protected from overhead work. Additionally, work on a water line could impact Lot 1, the parking area east of the building.
  • A steam pipe will be replaced in room 313 in Dyche Hall.
  • The elevator in the Dole Human Development Center will be shut down for repairs around June 23 and should take four weeks to complete.
  • Starting in mid-June, Memorial Campanile and Carillon will be closed as masonry repairs take place on the iconic structure.
  • Starting on May 20, repairs will begin on two of Ellsworth Hall’s elevators and should take seven to eight weeks to complete. The building’s third elevator will continue to operate during this time. Following the completion of the work on the first two elevators, around July 7, the third elevator will be closed for repairs for five to six weeks.
  • Work to replace portions of Green Hall’s heating, ventilating and air conditioning system on the third floor and in classrooms will begin this summer.  The third floor and classrooms will be affected.
  • Elevator 104A in Haworth Hall will be shut down for repairs around June 9 and should take eight weeks to complete.
  • Work to upgrade Hambleton, Moore and Parker halls, which house the Kansas Geological Survey, will continue. Moore and Parker will have scheduled electrical outages and Hambleton and Moore will have new roofs installed over the summer. Additionally, construction is underway on a new 5,500-square-foot building in the complex, which will expand the Kansas Geological Survey Drill Core Library.
  • The elevator in the west wing of Malott Hall will be shut down for repairs around July 7 and should take nine to 10 weeks to complete. Additionally, windows will also be replaced in Malott’s stairwells this summer.
  • Windows will be replaced in the Nunemaker Center later in the summer or early fall. Additionally, the building will have work done on its fire alarm system.
  • The Robinson Center will have a new backup generator installed in late summer or early fall.
  •  Work on the Shankel Structural Biology Center’s chiller will occur later this summer or early fall, which may result in loss in cooling for short time periods on the east side of the building.
  • The elevator in the Simons Biosciences Research Laboratories will be shut down for repairs around Aug. 18 and should take four weeks to complete.
  • Strong Hall’s east wing will see impacts throughout the summer for the installation of a new chilled water line.
  • Youngberg Hall will have a building reset with new lighting, carpet and paint. Additionally, the elevator will be shut down for repairs mid-May and should take about four weeks to complete. HVAC replacement in the building is planned for Fall 2025.
  • Battenfeld and Lindley halls will have new roofs installed over the summer.
