Parking Lot and Sidewalk Closures Scheduled Over the Summer
This summer, the University of Kansas will work to improve several parking lots and sidewalks around campus, which will require some to be closed or partially closed in the coming weeks. No major roads are expected to be closed this summer.
Please visit the Construction Information and Closures webpage for the most up-to-date information on construction projects that may impact where to park, how to access parking lots and travel routes to and from campus.
Parking lot and sidewalk projects scheduled this summer include the following:
Lot 7, which sits northwest of Green Hall, will be closed for repairs on May 18. Nearby lots 41 and 51 will remain open. The lot is expected to reopen on Aug. 3.
Lot 33, a service lot adjacent to Chalmers Hall, will be closed for reconstruction this summer as crews create accessible parking spaces. Those spaces will replace ones lost from the closure of Lot 2, which is needed for the construction of the KUbe, a new building that will provide studio and lab space for the School of Architecture & Design. Lot 2, which sits behind Marvin Hall, will not close until work is completed on Lot 33.
Portions of Lot 34 will be closed throughout the summer as crews work to extend the parking lot. The extension will be built between Robinson Health and Physical Education Center and Price Computing Center, just north of the Watkins Health Services. The tennis and volleyball courts will remain in their current location. The additional lot will add about 180 new parking spots and will be zoned red. Plans also call for adding yellow zone parking in lots on the other side of Price. See map for more details.
Sections of Lot 37, which sits between Haworth and Malott halls, will be closed for repairs throughout the summer. The closure will impact accessible parking and reserved parking stalls, which will be relocated during the project. Additionally, from May 18 to May 29, access to Malott’s dock will be closed. See map for full details.
Most of Lot 111, which includes the surface lots and parking garage for Corbin and Gertrude Sellards Person residence halls, will close for repairs and to reconfigure parking spaces. The upgrades include improving erosion control and storm drainage, replacing pavement, building a new retaining wall, curbs and stairs, and placing a crack and seal coat on existing pavement. The parking area in front of Corbin will remain open. A portion of College Drive will also be closed during the repairs, shifting traffic along the drive from one-way to two-way traffic. See map for more details.
Beginning May 18, levels one and two of the Allen Fieldhouse Parking Garage will close for repairs. Crews will repair corroded deck areas, overhead vertical and surface concrete, and storm drainage, as well as replace failing sealed joints. Additionally, one of the entrances and exits will be closed, so drivers will use the same entrance to enter and exit the garage. Drivers should follow traffic control signage.
Lot 211, which sits south of Hambleton, Parker and Moore halls in the West District, will be closed May 18 to Aug. 3. Crews will do extensive repairs to the lot, including grading, erosion control and improved lighting. While the parking lot is closed, nearby Lot 210 will remain open, and additional accessible parking spaces will be available. In addition to this work, an accessible sidewalk will be built along the north side of the Geological Core Library to Parker Hall. See map for more details.
An ADA ramp will be built for the main entrance of Dyche Hall and the Natural History Museum. During construction, this entrance will be closed; however, the north entrance will be open and is accessible. During portions of the project, a section of the sidewalk along Jayhawk Boulevard will be closed. More information about the sidewalk closure will be shared in Campus Insider this summer.
A new parking lot will be built in the location of the former Oliver Hall, at the intersection of Naismith Drive and 19th Street. The parking lot, expected to be completed this summer, should have more than 200 spaces and is planned to be zoned yellow.
Crews will do utility work and replace sidewalks north of Price Computing Center, along the secondary sidewalk between Price and the Robinson Center. The walkway along Sunnyside Avenue will remain open. Watch for additional information in Campus Insider about dates for sidewalk closure.
The fountain east of Miller and Watkins scholarship halls will be repaired. During the repairs, Pearson Place’s circle drive, which goes around the fountain, will be closed. Landscaping improvements will also be made in the area, but walkways are expected to remain open.
