Vital repairs and maintenance projects are scheduled this summer for buildings throughout campus. These projects, necessary to maintain the integrity of KU’s infrastructure, may cause some disruptions to those working in or near the buildings.

Scheduled projects for the summer include the following:

The Bailey Hall elevator will be updated and is expected to be out of service from May 26 to July 9. During this period, visitors will need to use stairs to access floors above the basement level, which has accessible entrances on the north and west sides. Faculty, staff or student employees needing assistance with accessible accommodations during the elevator outage should email the ADA Resource Center at accessibility@ku.edu. Students should contact the Student Access Center at  access@ku.edu.

Crews will replace a transformer in Budig Hall, which may cause occasional power outages throughout the summer. KU Operations will provide additional information to building occupants when power outages are planned.

Upgrades will be made to Gray-Little Hall’s room 2107 this summer, including moving the fume hood, installing an emergency generator outlet and adjusting lights.

This summer contractors will do site cleanup and water main work to prepare for the construction of the Entrepreneurship Hub, which will be located at the corner of Naismith Drive and Crescent Road.

Joseph R. Pearson Hall will have a new roof installed.

Renovations continue at Lindley Hall, as crews repair and waterproof the foundation, repair the storm sewer system, upgrade the IT infrastructure, and clean and seal the exterior of the building. The building is expected to reopen in fall 2027. The sidewalk in front of Lindley and Ritchie halls will remain closed into the summer.

Overhead rolling and coiling doors will be replaced in Murphy Hall’s rooms 209, 211 and 325.

The electrical work and HVAC in Parker Hall’s Lab 18 will be updated. Additionally, room 12 will have a fume hood installed and renovations will be made to the basement, including new flooring, paint, ceiling grid and tiles, lighting, doors and a water bottle filler.

The Shankel Structural Biology Center will install piping for a new system designed to capture and recover helium boil-off from various instruments, helping address the university’s limited helium supply.

Crews will replace a generator in the Spencer Museum of Art, which may cause occasional power outages throughout the summer. KU Operations will provide additional information to building occupants when power outages are planned.

Strong Hall’s heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system will be updated, requiring some offices to relocate over the summer. Additional information will be shared in Campus Insider on May 18.

In Summerfield Hall, classrooms 502 and 506 will be combined and fully renovated to create an active learning classroom with 72 chairs and tables and is expected to be open by the fall semester.

In Wescoe Hall, classrooms 4008, 4010 and part of 4011 will be combined and fully renovated to create an active learning classroom. The classroom will have 52 tablet-arm chairs and is expected to be open by the fall semester.

Projects will also be underway at several residence halls. They include improvements to the security system and parking repairs at Ellsworth Hall, updates to the elevator and improvements to security access for Hashinger Hall and parking lot repairs at Templin Hall. Lewis Hall, which is closed, is undergoing full renovations to its suites, fire alarm system upgrades and improvements to security access. The residence hall is expected to reopen for the fall semester.

KU employees can receive more information about incidents or work happening in their building by signing up for building-specific service alerts. Visit KU Operations’ webpage for more information on how to do so.
