KU Faculty and Academic Staff

Dear Faculty and Academic Staff,

The Provost’s Office and the Office of Graduate Studies are in the early stages of planning this year’s Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, and we are sending some important information for you to keep in mind as we speed toward May.

The ceremony will be at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, May 17, in the Lied Center and is intended to recognize doctoral students who have graduated or will graduate in one of the following semesters; Summer 2024, Fall 2024, Spring 2025, or Summer 2025.

Time-Sensitive Information for Your Doctoral Students

It is VERY important you encourage your students to Apply for Graduation by the March 3 deadline. Please share these details with them now. If a student has not applied for graduation before the deadline, they will not appear on our list of students to send information regarding the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony, which includes details of how and when to register for the University’s Doctoral Hooding Ceremony.

Even if you or your student is not 100% certain they will graduate in the Spring or Summer 2025 semesters, it is better for a student to apply for graduation. We are always able to defer a student’s application for graduation and remove them from the ceremony plans. Due to system limitations and timelines involved we are not able to add students after the deadlines.

Doctoral students who have applied for graduation by the March 3 deadline will receive an email invitation from doctoral-hooding@ku.edu to register for the hooding ceremony. The deadline to register for the ceremony is Wednesday, March 28. These deadlines are firm and must be adhered to ensure a smooth and orderly ceremony and to assure the student’s name will be announced correctly.

Respectfully,

Joanna Herrmann
