Share Your KU Story During Accreditation Visits
Dear Jayhawks,
I hope that your first weeks of the fall 2024 semester have been successful. The start of a new academic year is always filled with excitement and anticipation of the events to come. This academic year, we have an important opportunity to showcase the quality of our institution as we undergo the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accreditation process, and your voice as a student will be integral to this effort.
Accreditation is a process of continuous improvement and peer review that ensures universities meet standards of quality and effectiveness, affirming the value of your degree. Every member of the campus community — including you — is invited to participate in the accreditation process. Reviewers will visit campus on Monday, Sept. 9, 2024, to hear individual stories about how KU meets standards that ensure we deliver high quality academic programs.
Please join us at any of the open sessions to share how your educational experience at KU is having an impact on your life. All open forums will take place in the Ballroom on the 5th floor of the Kansas Union.
- 8:40-9:30 a.m. Open forum for “Mission and Integrity: Ethical & Responsible Conduct” (Criteria 1 and 2)
- 9:45-11 a.m. Open forum for “Teaching & Learning” (Criteria 3 and 4)
- 1:30-2:30 p.m. Open forum for “Institutional Effectiveness, Resources and Planning” (Criterion 5)
- 2:40-3:10 p.m. Open forum for “Research”
It is important that throughout this process, KU demonstrates a strong commitment to the shared principles that guide our university:
- Mission: To educate leaders, build healthy communities and make discoveries that change the world.
- Vision for KU Lawrence and Edwards: To be an exceptional learning community that lifts each member and advances society.
- Vision for KU Medical Center: To improve lives and communities in Kansas and beyond through partnership and innovation in education, research and health care.
- Values: IRISE (Integrity, Respect, Innovation, Stewardship, Excellence)
- Institutional Learning Goals: KU’s commitment to each student, regardless of field of study, that you develop skills that prepare you for your future career and equip you to be an engaged and informed citizen.
Your voice is critical to this process, and we hope you can join us and share your story. You can find additional information about the process and view the documents we submit on the HLC Accreditation 2025 website.
Rock Chalk!
Respectfully,
Jennifer Roberts
Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Graduate Studies
