Your survey responses help create a better KU
Dear Colleague,
In June, the Campus Constituent Survey Implementation Team shared updates that address your recommendations from the most-recently administered faculty and staff job satisfaction surveys. You can review these updates in this tracking document for constituent survey recommendations.
Here are a few select updates:
Recommendation: Enhance the condition and usability of all working spaces.
Actions:
- The ADA Resource Center at KU created a rubric to assess campus building accessibility and inclusiveness, leading to a prioritized list for FY '25 and beyond. Enhancements were made to athletics facilities, the Hawk Route, and the 2024 commencement, with contributions from KU Operations, Kansas Athletics, the Office of DEIB, and other partners.
Recommendation: Enhance new employee orientation/onboarding resources.
Actions:
- Human Resources and the Office of Faculty Affairs are developing consistent onboarding templates and resources for staff and faculty.
- The Office of Faculty Affairs enhanced new faculty orientation and added a spring session (1/15) in addition to the fall session (8/19). They also launched New Faculty Summer Connect, a weekly email campaign on June 5, and are hosting regular summer drop-in hours and trainings involving campus partners.
Recommendation: Implement a minimum salary for all employee classifications. The minimum salary should be regularly reviewed and adjusted against the market and cost of living.
Action:
- KU Lawrence and Edwards increased the minimum wage for Unclassified Professional Staff and University Support Staff to $17.20 per hour (the federal contractor minimum wage). Further details are available in the Provost’s email from 6/12/24. This is an initial step toward establishing a comprehensive minimum salary for all classifications.
We are looking forward to sharing more updates with you after the CCSI team meets in October.
Recommendations from the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) and Graduate Student Experience Survey (GSES), administered in the spring of 2024, will be incorporated into the Campus Constituent Survey Implementation Team’s work once they are finalized during the next academic year.
