Scholz to Serve as Interim Dean of Business
Dear Colleague,
I’m pleased to share with you that I’ve asked Susan Scholz, Executive Associate Dean of the School of Business and Professor of Accounting, to serve as Interim Dean of the School of Business. I also want to express my appreciation to Dean Paige Fields for her service and leadership of the School over the past seven years. The School has strengthened under her leadership and is prepared for continued excellence and success in the years ahead.
Susan will begin her appointment as Interim Dean on Aug. 1. Her administrative experience and familiarity with the faculty and staff in the School, as well as her commitment to students and excellence in instruction, make her an exceptional choice during this time of transition.
Susan has been a member of the B-School faculty for many years, beginning as a rookie Assistant Professor and has served as an Associate Dean or Executive Associate Dean of the School for the past 10. Before joining the University of Kansas, she earned her C.P.A. while at Deloitte and earned her doctorate in business from the University of Southern California. Her research focuses on public policy issues involving restatements and auditor choice, with studies appearing in several respected accounting journals. Her work has been commissioned and published by the U.S. Treasury Department and the Center for Audit Quality. Two studies received the Deloitte Wildman Award for research most likely to affect practice. She served as an editor for Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, an associate editor for Accounting Horizons and was on the editorial board of The Accounting Review. She has served as an officer of the American Accounting Association Auditing section and as chair of the section’s mid-year meeting and doctoral consortium. Her service record includes a number of department, school, university and discipline-based committees.
Interim Dean Scholz will be a strong leader who will conscientiously guide the School until the completion of a national search this coming academic year. Very soon I will begin assembling a robust search committee that can represent the various constituents and disciplines of the School of Business faculty, staff, students and alumni.
Please take a moment to reach out to Interim Dean Scholz to wish her well and offer her your support for the year ahead. Please also join me in thanking Dean Paige Fields for her years of service to the School, the University, the region and the state.
Thank you for all you do for KU.
Respectfully,
Barb
