Changes to Campus Fees
Students,
KU is making changes to simplify the campus fee structure and create better alignment across the Lawrence and Edwards campuses. The changes include renaming from “Required Campus Fees” to “Student Fees.”
The Student Fee Taskforce, comprised of students, faculty and staff, met during the past year and focused on several goals:
- Ensure student fees are appropriate and competitive with peer institutions
- Involve student representatives from both campuses in the fee review process
- Reduce confusion about fees and the services available for students on each campus
- Optimize campus operations in areas that receive funding from student fees
Student Wellness
For simplicity, we have combined three previous fees — Watkins Health Service, Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and Recreation Services — into one Wellness fee. The fee will be required for students on both campuses taking three or more credit hours, and optional for students taking one or two credit hours. Students enrolled in courses on the Edwards Campus will now have access to these wellness services. Student Senate will continue to provide review and oversight of this fee.
Aligning Our Campuses
We previously had different fee structures for the Lawrence and Edwards campuses. We have standardized full-time enrollment criteria across both campuses — 12 hours for undergraduate students and six hours for graduate students — to simplify the fee assessment process. We also rebalanced fees to ensure students pay similar amounts regardless on which campus they are enrolled.
Student Fees for 2024-25 Academic Year
For the coming academic year, the Student Fee (excluding course fees) will be $522.05 per semester for full-time undergraduate and graduate students on the Lawrence and Edwards campuses. Students taking classes on both campuses will pay only the Student Fee for one campus.
Updated tuition and fee information is available in the Comprehensive Fee Schedule. Please allow through July 31 to see all the changes accurately reflected on your student account. The charges will be accurate when bills are generated on Aug. 21.
If you have questions about how the charge is reflected on your account after Aug. 1, please contact the Office of the University Registrar at registrar@ku.edu or 785-864-4423.
