Support is Here
Dear Students, Staff and Faculty,
On Wednesday, tragedy hit a community that many of us at KU call home. The shooting at the Kansas City Super Bowl victory parade has left many in shock and with heartache.
I thank all those in our community who spent Wednesday afternoon and Thursday connecting with family, friends and colleagues in KC and providing care to our community members who have been impacted by this tragic event. My thoughts and prayers are with all who are affected by the shooting.
This tragedy that happened in our neighborhood is also an opportunity to recognize we can never fully know what else is happening in the lives of those around us. Worldwide events also have a real effect on our faculty, staff and students. This tragedy magnifies the pain, the stress and the anxiety that many already feel.
KU has a variety of resources available to help members of our campus community address difficult times. If you are in pain of any kind, please take advantage of our care resources. If someone you know is struggling, please help them connect.
Students:
- Student Care Referral Team
- Telus Health 24/7 mental health support
- Counseling and Psychological Services
- Additional mental health resources
- Graduate Student Mental Health and Wellness
Faculty and staff:
Individuals can also call, text or chat with the national 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.
I know Midwesterners and Jayhawks are resilient by nature. Please take time to take care of yourself and to care for others. If we can rise to this occasion by responding with care, it’s one small way we can begin to heal ourselves and our community.
Sincerely,
Barb
