Dear Colleague,

Our Office of Admissions staff are hearing concerns from some parents of incoming first-year students. As many of you know, we are looking forward to potentially welcoming the largest first-year class in KU history.

There is still a ways to go, though, and how each of us talks about and characterizes the start of the fall semester when interacting with incoming students and parents will make a difference in exactly how welcome each student feels.

While we each may have our own anxiety or stress about what this class means for our units, we know we can address any issue that might arise from this large class. Positive discussion with students and families will support their confidence in having made the best decision by choosing KU and their confidence in the smart and talented people and strategic programming that we have in place. Please feel free to share this with colleagues in your unit.

We are in an exciting situation that will help us connect with thousands of young adults, eager to explore the world and discover all that KU has to offer. Please help us ensure students and parents feel confident and excited about coming to the University of Kansas this fall.

Respectfully,

Barbara A. Bichelmeyer

Provost & Executive Vice Chancellor
