Meeting Notes

OneKU Research Administrative Council

Vice Chancellor for Research Shelley Hooks joined the Council to share about the formation of the OneKU Research Administrative Council and current goals of the group, along with how the Council of Academic Leaders could partner.

OneKU Research Administration Council members can be found on this site: https://onekuresearch.ku.edu/. It brings together leaders of KU and KU Medical Center with the goal of aligning policies. Hooks shared there is also a Research Scope group, which consists of center directors, lab directors and associate deans for research. This group is beginning to question the historical ways the research enterprise has run and will begin to think through alternatives with the goal that the research mission at KU is clearly defined.

Additionally, conversations will continue regarding F&A return models and best options moving forward. It was suggested that the vice chancellor return to the group once a semester to share knowledge and communication back and forth.

Updates from KBOR and KS Legislative Sessions

The Provost shared that the revised language at the KBOR policies on workload and evaluation align well with the union proposals on these topics. The Kansas legislature is currently in session and considering topics such as funding cuts, tenure, and House Bill 2428.

Additional Council Topics

Other topics that were discussed during the meeting included the recent pay increase for eligible employees and potential guests for future meetings, especially those who could speak to the process of salaries, the job titles project, and finances.
