Students, staff and faculty,

The importance of graduation education to the health and aspirations of the University of Kansas cannot be overstated. After receiving input from a diverse advisory committee, I announced realignment for the Office of Graduate Studies and we are now searching for a Vice Provost of Graduate Studies.

I’ve appointed a search committee, co-chaired by Vice Chancellor for Research Simon Atkinson and Associate Dean of Education Lisa Wolf-Wendel, to begin the task of identifying and evaluating highly qualified internal candidates for this 50% position, which will lead the Office of Graduate Studies in the years ahead.

About the Position

Along with the search committee, I invite KU faculty, staff, students and other KU stakeholders to nominate outstanding tenured faculty to serve the university through this significant leadership role. The Vice Provost for Graduate Studies (VPGS) provides leadership and administrative direction in graduate education on the Lawrence and Edwards campuses, with immediate responsibility for advancing the scope, quality, and national reputation of all graduate degree programs at KU. The VPGS reports directly to the provost and executive vice chancellor, whose office has the administrative and operational responsibility for the KU Lawrence and Edwards campuses. The VPGS is a member of the provost’s senior leadership team, developing and implementing strategic direction for the institution. The ideal candidate will also contribute to the university’s mission to promote social, economic, and environmental justice in an environment dedicated to enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion.

Required qualifications include an appointment as a tenured faculty member at the university, experience teaching and mentoring graduate students and a successful record of creative problem solving and implementing innovation in an administrative setting. Full details about the position can be found on the Vice Provost for Graduate Studies search webpage.

Nominations may be sent to vpgradsearch@ku.edu. Tenured faculty are also encouraged to apply directly by Nov. 13.
