Launch of Experts at KU: Faculty Expertise Search Portal
I am pleased to announce the launch of the online faculty expertise search portal, Experts at KU, that helps internal and external users connect with researchers on the Lawrence and KU Medical Center campuses. The portal is the result of a collaboration between KU Innovation and Collaboration, Institutional Research and Planning, KU Research, Faculty Development, and Information Technology.
Users of the Experts at KU portal can search by research topic or discipline to see a list of tenured/tenure-track faculty and academic staff researchers with expertise on a particular topic. By selecting a researcher’s name, users will see more specific information on that person's publications or creative works, awards, grants, and patents.
Experts at KU draws information from the research record (publications, performances, exhibits, etc.) and awards in the Faculty PRO system that the faculty member has selected for display on the web. It also includes records of publications and patents compiled by Academic Analytics from publicly available databases. In addition, Experts at KU includes grant data (from July 2008 to the present) provided by the KU-Lawrence Office of Research and the KUMC Research Institute.
The portal is publicly accessible, making it a powerful tool for potential collaborators at external organizations and other universities who want to explore partnerships with KU researchers.
We invite you to visit Experts at KU before it is announced to the public on May 1. To ensure your online research profile is as up-to-date as possible, follow these steps:
- Step 1. Check your Faculty PRO records to make sure you have identified all publications/creative works and awards that you wish to display on the web.
- Step 2. The feed from PRO to Experts at KU is updated nightly so if you have made changes please wait until the next day to visit the portal.
- Step 3. Visit the site at http://experts.ku.edu/. Enter your name or a relevant search term in the portal.
- Step 4. Spend some time reviewing the accuracy and completeness of your research information and exploring the search capabilities of the site.
Please send your questions and feedback about Experts at KU to expertsatKU@ku.edu.
