Reminder: Notice of Non-reappointment

Dear Colleagues,

In accordance with policy on Non-reappointment of Unclassified Professional Staff, an unclassified professional staff member who has served three full fiscal years or more must be given notice no later than Wednesday, March 30th for non-reappointment in the following fiscal year; a staff member who has served less than three full fiscal years must receive notice by no later than Monday, May 16th . If the termination is a result of budgetary constraints, program discontinuance, or reorientation, the staff member may be terminated without the usual notice period stated above after consultation with Human Resource Management (HRM). In such cases, units are asked to give employees as much notice as possible, i.e. a minimum of two weeks’ notice except in extreme circumstances. Upon recommendation of a unit director or chair, the written notice of non-reappointment may be issued by the provost, chancellor, or a designated representative as appropriate (e.g., dean, vice provost, associate vice provost, vice chancellor). When such notices are issued, copies should be sent to the Office of the Provost, Human Resource Management, and the appropriate HR appointment specialist.
