Plan your next bus trip with new transit app and texting tools

Tuesday, September 26, 2017

LAWRENCE — Transit riders in Lawrence have new, upgraded tools to find out when their bus will be arriving. Lawrence Transit upgraded its real-time bus system with a new app and texting function.

The new free app is called “MyBusLawrence” and can be downloaded on Google Play or iTunes. Using the app, transit riders can view a map that shows in real-time where the bus is on their route. They can also set up alerts for particular bus stops and plan their trip using Google Maps.

All bus stops are assigned a number, which is visible on each bus stop sign. Transit riders can send a text message to 41411, enter TRIP and the bus stop number as the body of their text. A return message will be sent telling them when their bus is predicted to arrive.

“The new system is designed to be more accurate, easier to use and has more features that bus riders have asked for,” said Robert Nugent, city Transit administrator. “By using these mobile tools, you can plan your day and your transportation needs more efficiently.”

Riders at the KU campus also can benefit from the app.

“This is the next step in improving our coordinated transit service,” said Danny Kaiser, assistant director of Parking & Transit at KU. “We are always looking for ways to make the experience better for our passengers.”

Bus riders should still get to the bus stop a few minutes early since many factors can affect the arrival time. When using this new texting feature, message and data rates may apply.

Instructions for how to use the new app and texting system are online at www.lawrencetransit.org/mobile-tools. For additional help, call 785-864-4644.
