Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Announcement
Dear Faculty and Staff,
I have wonderful news to share with you. Effective immediately Stuart Day is our new senior vice provost for Academic Affairs.
Stuart has been a valued contributor in the Provost Office since January 2016, when he was appointed to the role in an interim basis. His thoughtful and creative approach has provided valuable insight and guidance through several opportunities and challenges.
For those of you less familiar with Stuart’s background, he joined the KU faculty in 2005 and served as chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese from 2010 to 2015. He held a number of other leadership roles within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the university. His main area of teaching and research is contemporary Latin American literature, with a focus on theater and performance in Mexico. Stuart is a prolific author and editor of scholarly articles and texts. His most recent works include the books “Mexican Public Intellectuals,” “Outside Theater: Alliances That Shape Mexico,” and “Modern Mexican Culture: Critical Foundations.” He was awarded the W. T. Kemper Fellowship for Teaching Excellence in 2009 and was a 2011-2012 Senior Administrative Fellow. Before joining the faculty at KU he taught at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2000-2005), where he was a Faculty Fellow and recipient of two teaching/mentoring awards.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and education from Northern Arizona University’s Center for Excellence in Education, a master of arts in Hispanic literature from the University of Arizona, and his doctorate in Latin American literature from Cornell University.
