I wanted you to have this information about the dates for the Winter Recess and the Academic Break. Please share it with University support staff and unclassified professional staff in your unit, as some of them may wish to work on the Veterans Day holiday, November 11, in order to use their compensatory time during the winter recess.

Winter Recess: During the recess, administrative and student services offices responsible for completing fall semester graduation checks, for processing Promotion and Tenure files, and for discharging operational and business functions will remain open on work days. Other offices may close or may arrange for reduced staffing with prior approval of their dean, vice provost, vice chancellor, Provost, or Chancellor as appropriate.

Dates: Tuesday, December 27 through Monday, January 2

  • Work days: December 27, 28, 29, and 30
  • Building hours on work days: 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Weekends and holidays: December 24, 25, 26, and 31; January 1 and 2

Academic Break: Final examinations conclude on Friday, December 16; spring semester classes begin on Tuesday, January 17.

Dates: Saturday, December 17, through Monday, January 16 (Martin Luther King Jr. holiday)

I will provide more detailed information about campus operations during the Winter Recess and the Academic Break and about related payroll and personnel procedures at a later date.
