Vice Provosts, Deans, Directors, and Chairs:

The Department of Human Resources and Equal Opportunity (HR/EO) collaborates with other administrative offices on campus to offer an orientation program for new managers. The program has been well received by past participants. We solicit your assistance in identifying new managers who should be invited to participate in the fall semester session from 8:00 am–1:30 pm, Wednesday October 26, 2011, in the Big 12 Room, Kansas Union.

The program is designed to assist new managers in gaining a greater understanding of the University's administrative support functions. Participants will meet key campus administrators and will gain insights about resources available to help them manage their units. The preliminary agenda for the orientation session, including a luncheon, is attached.

The program is best suited for individuals who manage (rather than supervise) a departmental program or function and who have the discretion to establish program direction. Individuals who are most likely to benefit from this program are those who function at the level of assistant director or higher and who have assumed their management roles within the last five years.

By Wednesday, October 19, 2011 please provide Ola Faucher, HR/EO (ofaucher@ku.edu), with the names of individuals in your area who should be invited to attend this program. Please confirm their availability for the October 26th session when you nominate them. Please also let the individuals know that they may submit a question(s) for presenters to respond at the session by sending the question(s) to HR/EO at hrdept@ku.edu.

Thank you for your cooperation in nominating your staff for this important program. We are confident that it will be helpful to our new managers.
